What is Ovuplant^® and How does it Work?

• Ovuplant^® is a sustained release implant of deslorelin (GnRH agonist)
• Prepared as a bio-compatible cylindrical Implant (3.6mm long x 2.3mm in diameter)
• Preloaded in a disposable syringe-like implanter.

Implant is simply placed in the neck of the mare midway between head and shoulder when the mare is in oestrus with a developing follicle greater than 30mm. As deslorelin is an analogue of endogenous gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), the GnRH receptors in the pituitary are stimulated and there is a subsequent surge in luteinising hormone. Precise timing of ovulation is induced by increasing the secretion of LH and FSH. This surge will cause ovulation in mares with a developing follicle greater than 30mm.
